CONCRETE QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Know more.
Plan with confidence.

A practical starting point for your project. Your site, intended use and concrete condition still need their own review.

How do I request a concrete estimate?

Use the estimate form or call/text 520-303-6142. Start with the project city or ZIP code, type of work, approximate dimensions and the condition of any existing concrete. Include your preferred timing and access concerns. We will discuss the information and whether a site review or plans are needed before the concrete scope and price can be confirmed.

What affects the price besides square footage?

Preparation, removal and disposal, site access, concrete requirements, reinforcement, finish, project size and sequencing can all influence the scope. A small job with difficult access can be different from a larger open site. For repairs or overlays, the condition of the existing concrete and the preparation required are especially important to the estimate.

Can existing concrete be repaired or resurfaced instead of replaced?

Sometimes. We assess the concrete’s soundness, the extent of damage, movement, settlement, drainage and previous treatments. Localized damage may support a defined repair, while a stable slab may be suitable for an overlay to improve appearance. Severe deterioration or unstable concrete can require replacement. The visible surface alone does not determine the right approach.

Will an overlay stop cracks or movement permanently?

No. An overlay is a surface treatment and cannot stabilize the supporting ground or eliminate structural movement. Cracks may reappear through a new finish. We evaluate the existing slab and define preparation and any necessary repairs before recommending a system. Significant structural concerns may need an appropriate professional assessment before appearance work is considered.

Why do preparation and curing matter?

The condition beneath the finished surface affects how a concrete project performs, while curing helps new concrete develop its intended properties. For an overlay, bonding depends on a suitable, properly prepared existing surface. These steps are part of planning the work rather than optional details added after a finish is chosen. Specific methods depend on the project and materials.

Can you guarantee concrete will never crack?

No. Concrete changes with moisture, temperature and loading, and a completely crack-free result cannot be promised. Preparation, project design, joints, placement and curing help manage its behavior. New unevenness, widening cracks or continuing movement deserve a review of their cause rather than an assumption that every crack is either harmless or purely cosmetic.

How does Tucson weather affect the work?

Heat, dry air and wind can influence moisture loss and the handling of fresh concrete. Rain, exposure and access also affect site readiness and scheduling. That makes placement, protection and curing part of the plan for the actual conditions. We discuss project timing with those factors in mind rather than promise the same sequence in every season.

When can I walk, park or put furniture on new concrete?

Different uses create different loads, and readiness depends on the concrete or resurfacing system, the scope and site conditions. A surface can look dry before it is ready for vehicles, equipment or concentrated furniture loads. Follow the project-specific return-to-use instructions and ask before advancing to a heavier use or installing another surface treatment.

What finishes can I discuss with JLA?

Ask about a practical textured finish and suitable decorative patterns, textures or color options. The available choices depend on whether the project is new concrete or a resurfacing system and how the area will be used. For exterior surfaces, traction, exposure, drainage and cleaning needs should be considered alongside the look.

Can I send photos or plans?

Yes. Photos and plans can help us understand the project before a site discussion. Email them to jlabuildersllc@gmail.com and include your name and project city so they can be connected with your inquiry. Wide photos help show the area and access; closer views help show the visible surface condition. The estimate form itself asks for written project details.

Do you work with general contractors, managers and HOAs?

We welcome discussions about defined concrete scopes, including foundations, slabs, sidewalks, repairs and subcontracting opportunities. Send plans or affected locations, the project contact, target schedule and access requirements. Share procurement, qualifications or documentation needs early so those requirements can be reviewed before a proposal or commitment is finalized.

Where does JLA work, and what licensing information should I use?

JLA serves Tucson and surrounding communities, including Marana, Oro Valley and Sahuarita. Provide your city or ZIP code so we can confirm coverage for the project. The business name is JLA Builders & Renovators LLC and the Arizona ROC number is 357433. The official Arizona Registrar of Contractors search is the place to verify current license information.
